Metlifecare’s The Orchards retirement village is now officially open. On Thursday 26 November the Hon Dr Jonathan Coleman opened the village in a ribbon cutting ceremony surrounded by the village residents and those who helped in the construction and development of the village. Also in attendance were John and Noel Cox, brothers who grew up together on the orchard that the village is now built on, who have kept a keen interest in the development of the village.
In his speech Coleman spoke about the aging population in New Zealand and the importance of building retirement communities, creating a space where elders feel safe and can enjoy their retirement years.
The Orchards has been built in three stages, stages 1 and 2 are now complete and occupied by residents. In addition to this the 36-bed Care Home offering Rest Home and Hospital level care is also open. Stage 3 is expected to be completed in late 2016.
