Singalong reveals memories of forgotten friendship between residents
7 Saint Vincent resident Bruce Marler wasn’t initially planning to join the ‘Seated Exercise with Music’ group in the lounge, but tempted in one Monday by the music, he decided to give it a go.
Bruce then offered to take the energy up another notch by starting an impromptu ukulele singalong session!
As he sang, fellow resident Judi Winter recognised Bruce’s strumming – his repertoire on the ukelele had triggered some long-forgotten happy memories. Bruce and Judi realised their families used to get together years ago during sailing holidays when they would enjoy singalongs to Bruce’s uku and have a wonderful time.
Since then, the old friends and their fellow residents have started a regular get together at the village to enjoy Bruce’s tunes and sing along to old favourites like “Jamaica Farewell”, “Good night Irene”, “You are my sunshine” and many more.
Bruce has now put a call out in the village to see if any more uku players want to join the fun, and with two staff members already joining him for a strum this week, it seems like Bruce has started a fun new tradition at 7 Saint Vincent – as well as finding an old friend.
