Premium retirement village living comes to Clevedon

Development land in Clevedon

Clevedon will soon have its first retirement village, following Metlifecare’s announcement today that they have acquired a premium site in the south-east Auckland district.

Metlifecare’s CEO Earl Gasparich said the company intended to invest around $150 million in the 20-hectare Clevedon Kawakawa Rd site.

“With its enviable position, right in the heart of the Clevedon township, and its uninterrupted views over the Wairoa River and Hunua Ranges, we know this new retirement village will be highly sought after,” says Mr Gasparich.

The Clevedon district is well-known for its boutique food and wine, arts and crafts and rich history. Being located just 30 minutes from Central Auckland, it’s long-been a destination for Aucklanders seeking a scenic weekend retreat.

“Whether you enjoy catching a game of polo at the Auckland Polo Club, or strolling around the local farmers’ market, it’s a stunning location and we can’t wait to be part of the Clevedon community,” he says.

Mr Gasparich added that the bespoke village design and refined living experience, as well as a full continuum of care, is likely to appeal to senior Clevedon locals.

“Residents will be able to live completely independently in their own apartment or villa, with all of the services and amenities you’d expect in a premium retirement village, but with the added comfort of knowing that premium aged care will be available, on-site, should there be a time when it is needed.”

Metlifecare has worked extensively with the local business association and community members, as well as engaging with local iwi, throughout the design and resource consent process to ensure that this is a village that locals would be proud to call home.

The new village is anticipated to include approximately 130 independent villas and apartments and a 60-bed premium care centre.
