Metlifecare and Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust are pleased to announce that construction will commence next week on the new Metlifecare Palmerston North Villas development.

Earlier this morning, the site was blessed by Kaumatua Terry Hapi (Ngāti Rangi Te Paia) and a turning of the soil ceremony was led by Palmerston North Mayor Grant Smith along with Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust Chairman, Liz Mellish. We acknowledge and give thanks to mana whenua, Rangitane, and we are delighted to work with them through Terry Hapi to ensure the wellbeing of this development.

The new site will be part of the existing Metlifecare Palmerston North village – a joint venture between Metlifecare and Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust.

Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust Chairman, Liz Mellish says, “Metlifecare and Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust have been in partnership for more than twenty years and we are delighted to be working together to bring this exciting new development to the local community. As responsible landowners we feel that this Te Āti Awa Maori partnership with Metlifecare is a wonderful example of business leading the way forward as partners.

Future designs

There is expected to be a high level of demand for the two-bedroom, one-level homes. Up to 43 villas are being planned for the site, which is located close to the central city between Ngata and Carroll Streets.

Metlifecare CEO, Earl Gasparich, says, We are thrilled to be partnering with Palmerston North Māori Reserve Trust on this new development. It is an enviable location and future residents will receive all of the benefits of being part of a friendly and well-established village community with Palmerston North Village just across the road.

For independent living residents, who also want the comfort of knowing that care is available on site should they need it one day, they will have that sense of comfort with an outstanding care home within the Metlifecare Palmerston North village as well.

Metlifecare has a strong focus on collaborating with the communities where we have new developments being built and we have also worked closely with our partner to look at opportunities to integrate culturally sensitive design into our new development.

We can’t wait to get construction underway and provide further opportunities for residents to move into this highly popular village” says Mr Gasparich.
