Moving from retirement village to aged care
Doreen has lived in the same retirement village for 13 or 14 years, so it feels like home. Her husband and her grew orchids, but he was the one who grew them really. They had been married 68 years when he died. So going into care in the same village was just a shift to her home. She is still able to do exactly what she wants. When she first moved into the care facilities of her village she said to the Nurse Manager that this was her room and she made it hers.
Life in an aged care facility
She is happy in her care facility as she has windows out onto the gardens and all the flowers. She also goes and sings in the village choir, as well as, heading down to the village for concerts at night. Doreen says this care home is a home. It is not a hospital. It is certainly a place where you can rest your heart. This is home.
