Capturing winning moments
04 August 2023
Hundreds of talented resident photographers across Metlifecare entered their candid shots into the first Metlifecare ‘My Moments’ photo competition. Running for the month of June, as the entries plied in, we soon realised this was no amateur competition. The top lensman or woman was going to be a contested prize, so our three judges had a tough job ahead of them.
“Capturing special moments - whether it’s the curiosity of a child, a bird in flight, or a crushing table tennis victory - is what good photography is all about. Judging by the entries into the ‘My Moments’ competition, it’s clear that many of the Metlifecare residents have an eye for it”, said James Frankham, NZ Geographic Magazine owner, publisher and ex-editor.
As the judges made their way through the remarkable photos, they somehow managed to narrow down the entries and select four gifted winners.
We are thrilled to announce the four category winners are:
‘Friends and Family’ – Max Carr: Dannemora Gardens
Max’s granddaughter trying to pop bubbles at their family picnic really encapsulates a cherished moment that will last forever.
‘Lifestyle’ – Robyn Pittams: Greenwich Gardens
This walking group photo captures the essence and passion of hiking. We can feel their legs pumping and determination as they climb the hill.
‘Nature and Gardens’ – Glenn Jennings: Pinesong
An outstanding visual shot that shows a view many of us can’t see with our naked eye. This image of a Pied Oystercatcher stretching his wings in flight truly says a thousand words.
‘Village Life’ – Alan Arnold: Greenwood Park
An energetic photo of the claimed winning shot feels like you are there. You can almost hear the cheers and much hilarity from the opponent!
