Leap of love

Theresa prepping to jump

At 94 years young, Pinesong resident Theresa – known as Tita – proved that age is no barrier to adventure when she leapt from Auckland’s Sky Tower’s SkyJump.

Far from a one-off, this fearless feat is part of Tita’s tradition as she builds up to her 100th birthday. She even hopes to secure a Guinness World Record as the oldest woman to take on the SkyJump challenge!

This year’s descent carried a deeper meaning. With her husband, daughter, siblings and friends all touched by cancer, Tita dedicated her leap to raising funds for the Cancer Society of New Zealand. “This is my way of honouring and supporting them,” she shared, surrounded by her loving whānau.

She didn’t jump alone, with fellow Pinesong residents making the trip to Sky Tower viewing deck to cheer her on. Residents, friends and family, clapped and waved madly as Tita descended at speed.

Her courage and zest for life left everyone inspired. Proof that attitude, not age, defines what’s possible.
