I was the first resident to move into the Harbour Apartments. The code of compliance was completed on a Wednesday, and I was in on the Saturday. I had the entire block all to myself. I felt like the Queen!
When I found out they were going to build a village here, it was a such a relief. I didn’t have to move out of my environment. I’ve been here 20 years, so my community is my home.
Everyone is so warm, friendly and genuinely interested in getting to know one another. There is no elitism – or ageism – we’re all here together and we’re all equal.
The staff are all incredibly lovely and caring, too.
The day I moved into my apartment, I got lunch delivered on a platter, a cup of tea, and a big box of goodies. My bed was made, and I didn’t even have to hang my pictures. It’s all done for you. I couldn’t get over how wonderful the welcome was.
You just bring what matters to you. If you need more space for having people over – you can hire the pavilion (for free). I had my birthday and Christmas with my family and friends there and it was brilliant.
One thing I did think about when I first moved into my apartment was how do you get to know your neighbours? It’s not the same as living in a villa where you can just wave out over the fence. So, I formed ‘Club 78’ (named after our apartment block number).
As more residents have moved in, the number has grown, and we’ll probably need to move to a bigger venue now! “We all get together
and have drinks every Wednesday evening in the foyer. When someone new moves in, I send them a welcome card and invite them to Club 78.”
I couldn’t be happier about moving to Pohutukawa Landing. If you don’t move before you have to, you don’t have the same choices that I’ve had. Friends of mine say, ‘I’m not ready for that yet.’ I don’t know what ‘that’ is. I say,
‘come over and have a look.’ Because when you get here you go, wow, it’s like a resort. But with character, and friends. I absolutely love it.
