A premium retirement village and care home is planned for the heart of Pukekohe, following Metlifecare’s announcement today that they have acquired a new site in South Auckland.

Metlifecare’s CEO Earl Gasparich said the company plans to invest around $210m in the 8.6-hectare Jellicoe Road site.

“Situated on Pukekohe Hill with expansive views overlooking the township and facing north toward Rangitoto Island and Auckland city, we know this new retirement village will be highly sought after,” says Mr Gasparich.

Located approximately 50km south of Auckland’s CBD, Pukekohe is well-known for its semi-rural charm, rich horticultural history and growing population.

“Pukekohe is one of the fastest growing secondary urban areas in New Zealand, with a vibrant and active community that we can’t wait to be part of,” says Mr Gasparich.

“With a demand for high quality, well-designed retirement living and care options, as well as a range of price points, this village will suit both local Pukekohe seniors and those from further afield.

“Residents will be able to live completely independently in their own apartment or villa, with all of the services and amenities you’d expect in a premium retirement village, but with the added comfort of knowing that premium aged care will be available, on-site, should there be a time when it is needed.”

Mr Gasparich added that the bespoke village design, and its construction, will reflect Metlifecare’s commitment to sustainability by looking at ways to reduce its carbon footprint within the village.

Reducing our environmental footprint through all our village developments is a fundamental part of our sustainability focus. We’ll also be exploring sustainability initiatives for within the village that will include solar power generation, rainwater harvesting, waste minimisation and composting,” says Mr Gasparich.

Design has commenced for this new village, and we hope to lodge resource consent early next year,” says Metlifecare’s development manager, Camille Warnaar.

The design of the village will reflect Pukekohe’s natural landscape and character and look to incorporate key amenities and features that epitomise the Pukekohe community and its heritage,” says Ms Warnaar.

Stuart Searle, of Searle Group Limited, a local Franklin based land developer and property investor who sold the site to Metlifecare, is delighted with the proposed premium retirement village planned for the property.

“When Metlifecare directly approached us, we formed the view that a premium retirement village is a good outcome for the site and a great asset for the local Franklin area” says Mr Searle.

“It’s a fantastic central site that combines the community’s rural feel, with the convenience of Pukekohe’s bustling township and all its amenities just a short drive away.

“As a long-time Pukekohe resident myself, it’s reassuring to know that Metlifecare will design a village that locals and residents will be proud of.”

Subject to resource consent, construction is expected to commence in 2023, and it’s anticipated the village will be completed in 2027.

The new village will include approximately 168 independent villas and apartments and a 60-bed premium care home.
